Life Sciences in the 21st Century

This course provides information on the history and future of the biological sciences with an emphasis on career opportunities in biology. It is designed for entering freshmen or rising sophomores interested in pursuing careers in biology and related fields.
This course is designed to help students develop an awareness and appreciation of biology as part of human history and how it will provide for our future environmental, technological, cultural, and governmental needs.

Students enrolled in this course will be required to:

  1. Attend all lectures (30% of final grade "pop" quizzes)
  2. Develop a plan of study for their undergraduate degree (10%)
  3. Describe a professional day (8:00 am-5:00 pm) ten years from the present (10%)
  4. Describe a graduate program related to their area of interest and outline the steps which are required to enter such a program (15%)
  5. Take a final exam (35%)
