Education
I have a Ph.D. (1994) in Computer Science from Virginia Tech where I
concentrated on Artificial Intelligence, specifically Natural Language
Generation. In 1976, I graduated with an
M.S. in Computer Science. I combined both CS and EE courses and
concentrated on systems software and computer architecture. At the
time, there was no Computer Engineering degree at Virginia Tech, but
I tailored my own.
Work History
I have worked for Virginia Tech since 1976. From 1976 through 1997,
I was employed in various departments related to centralized computing
and communications. My tasks included writing communications software,
building data aquisition systems for various research labs, and designing
client/server applications in a Unix environment.
In 1997, I moved to the centralized computing group for the college of
agriculture which at the time included the
ISIS lab. In fall of 1998, I began working full time in ISIS, a group
in the Virginia Tech Entomology
Department. Around 2002, the ISIS group lost its leader, so I
now work for the Entomology Department.
My tasks in ISIS were varied. I do software design,
project management, and Unix system administration. (See
Projects) from the old ISIS group.
See my page
at the Entomology web site for current details.
